We all know by now that "hygge" is a lifestyle but we have yet to explain what it means and how to use the word.
We went to our trusted google in search of the definition and this is what we found; a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture.
While this is very true, we are here to elaborate on this so that you can be able to define your own moments of hygge.
Let’s start with the word Hygge, this is a noun and an adjective. Depending on the sentence, it is written hygge, hyggelig, and hyggeligt.
i.e) Let’s hygge
i.e) It was a hyggelig resturant
i.e) It was hyggeligt to see you again
As you can see “Hygge” can be used in so many situations!! The hygge feeling is up to you, when and what you define hygge.
Now let us define each example to make more sense.
I.e) Let’s hygge
This means to spend some quality time with family or friends. Snuggling up on the sofa with friends and family, watch a good movie while eating snacks. Or getting cozy and have long conversations about anything.
I.e) It was a hyggelig restaurant.
This usually refers to a cozy restaurant with dimmed lights, or nice music, good food, good company, or even the interior can make places hyggelig.
I.e) It was hyggeligt to see you again.
This is often times said, if you haven’t seen the person in awhile and you had a great time with them.
